The role
As the Tender Engineer Electrical & Automation at Damen Naval’s Proposals department, you are responsible for conceptual and contract design of electrical and automation systems (power generation and distribution, propulsion, platform automation, cable installations, navigation systems etc) for our state-of-the-art naval vessels while complying with all requirements and regulations.
Working as a member of the multidisciplinary tender team, you come up with innovative electrical & automation design solutions as part of a commercially viable and attractive proposition. You have a winning mentality, combined with excellent numerical and digital insights as it involves complex solutions. You are also a gifted writer, able to substantiate your figures and solutions in a compelling and convincing document, set to win over the customer. After a successful tender, you are responsible for a smooth transition of your work towards our engineering department for detailed engineering and realization.
As the Damen Naval E&A Engineering teams are located in Vlissingen and Schiedam, you need to be available for frequent travel to both office locations.
Key accountabilities
As the Tender Engineer Electrical and Automation, your key responsibilities will include:
- Support during the preliminary equipment selection and budget allocation by contributing to the requirements analysis and drafting electrical & automation engineering specifications.
- Define general system architectures (Single Line Diagram, Automation Architecture) including the electrical load balances and (propulsion) system configuration as part of the design and tender package.
- Evaluate the designs against requirements and prepare corresponding reports.
- Write technical documents, contract specifications, and reports, effectively communicating complex concepts and data to customers and subcontractors.
- Participate in discussions with customers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders on technical and commercial aspects of proposed solutions.
- Support cost evaluations provided by subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal departments to optimize project outcomes.
Skills & experience
To excel as the Tender Engineer Electrical and Automation, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:
- 3+ years of experience in electrical design concepts and practices, preferably acquired in complex maritime (tender) projects.
- Strong writing skills with the ability to deliver detailed and compelling technical content.
- Commercial mindset to create viable and appealing technical and financial forecasts
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field.
- Excellent command of the English language both written and verbal, preferably also Dutch. Willingness to learn Dutch is a job requirement.
- Willingness to frequently travel to our Vlissingen and Schiedam offices.
- Excellent reference antecedents as a pre-employment security screening is standard part of the recruitment procedure.
- Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required and candidates with NL/EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
