The role
As Technical Specialist in Smart Maintenance at Damen Naval, you will be at the forefront of innovation in naval engineering. You will play a crucial role in developing, advising, and engineering specialized solutions within research, design, proposal preparation, and project execution. This position requires deep expertise in condition monitoring technologies and data analysis related to condition-based maintenance of ship machinery. You will need to balance traditional experience and rule-based approaches with modern data-driven evaluation systems and software.
Expertise in multiple monitoring technologies, sensor functionality, and automation systems will be highly valued, especially in aiding the selection and implementation of sensors beyond machinery condition monitoring. Additionally, a background in maintenance or asset management will be beneficial for evaluating and optimizing scheduled and condition-based maintenance activities.
Recognized as an expert in your field, you will ideally hold an ISO 18436-2 (III) accreditation or possess equivalent proven experience. You'll be part of a specialized team engaged in research programs, providing short-term technical consultancy as well as long-term engineering and implementation support.
Key accountabilities
As Technical Specialist Smart Maintenance, your key responsibilities will include:
- Develop, review, and provide expert advice to the Research & Development, Proposals, and Engineering departments. This includes creating management plans, analysis reports, calculations, simulations, technical specifications, and test/validation protocols for complex projects.
- Participate in and support Verification and Validation tests and trials during production phases or as part of research initiatives.
- Actively contribute to the advancement of your expertise area and promote findings across various projects.
- Participate in design reviews and deliver top-quality engineering work within agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Ensure that all work meets the necessary requirements and specifications.
- Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and enhancement of processes, tools, and knowledge transfer within the department.
Skills & experience
To excel as Technical Specialist Smart Maintenance you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:
- Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering, with a strong affinity for Electrical Engineering and Automation.
- At least five years of relevant experience, with significant expertise in condition monitoring, smart maintenance, and complex project environments.
- In possession of ISO 18436-2 (III) certification or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong ability to collaborate with research institutes, universities, engineers, and project and tender managers in naval shipbuilding or a related industry.
- Good command of the Dutch and English language both written and verbal.
- Excellent references antecedents as a pre-employment security screening is standard part of the recruitment procedure.
- Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
