FunctieAs Senior Engineer Composite Structures, you will play a crucial role in designing, validating, and delivering large-scale composite structures for the project of Damen Naval. You will balance hands-on project work with innovative R&D initiatives, ensuring the structural integrity, producibility, and maintainability of advanced composite maritime structures. In your project-based work, you will perform FEM analysis and structural calculations, oversee technical reviews, and collaborate with manufacturers and suppliers. In the R&D space, you will lead segments of major European Defence projects, pioneering new methods for repair, joining, and maintaining naval composite structures. This is your opportunity to contribute to innovative solutions in naval engineering while growing as an expert in composite structures.
As Senior Engineer Composite Structures at Damen Naval your responsibilities are:
- Designing and validating large composite structures using FEM analysis, covering aspects such as strength, stiffness, vibrations, buckling, fatigue, and military loads.
- Conducting and reviewing Ansys simulations for masts and deckhouses.
- Reviewing technical documentation from suppliers and subcontractors, including production engineering documents and calculation reports.
- Collaborating with composite manufacturers to develop effective production strategies.
- Supporting basic and detailed engineering phases, including design checks and reviews of outsourced packages.
- Providing production guidance, including FMEA setup, production documentation reviews, and on-site production inspections.
- Managing R&D activities to integrate innovative composite technologies, documenting findings, and validating designs.
- Defending and clearly communicating technical solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensuring seamless integration of components and systems into naval ship designs.
As Senior Engineer Composite Structures you need to have the following profile:
- Bachelor or Master degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
- At least five years of experience in structural composite engineering.
- Proficiency in structural FEM analysis, preferably with experience using Ansys and other software such as NX or FEMAP, and CAD tools like NUPAS (3D), 3DX and or Catia.
- Experience with classification societies (IACS) and knowledge of composite production processes.
- In-depth understanding of Fibre Reinforced Polymers.
- Subcontract management experience in complex project environments is a plus.
- Strong creativity, accuracy, efficiency, and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of Dutch is a bonus.
- Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
- Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with (also) a non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible given the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.

- Salary: €3.500 – €6.000 (Excluding Holiday money)
