The role
As a Naval Architect specializing in Weight Control and Hydrostatics, you will play a vital role in our design team. Your primary focus will be on general ship design calculations, particularly regarding weight and hydrostatic properties, ensuring the vessel's design is safe, stable, and within weight budgets. You'll utilize various ship design software packages, including PIAS stability software, and execute inclining tests. Additionally, you'll interact with clients, classification societies, subcontractors, and shipyards to ensure all requirements are met. In this role, you will also:
- Provide expertise in weight control and hydrostatics during the proposal phase and manage these aspects during engineering and production phases.
- Develop, review, and advise on creative solutions for complex projects, contributing to research and development, proposals, and engineering activities.
- Conduct design reviews and verification tests, including inclining tests, to ensure compliance with all specifications.
- Promote advancements in your field of expertise and ensure knowledge transfer within the department.
Key accountabilities
As Naval Architect - Weight Control and Hydrostatics, your key responsibilities will include:
- Contribute as a technical specialist to R&D projects, proposals, and engineering activities by developing, reviewing, and advising on solutions for complex projects.
- Develop and review required deliverables, such as aspect management plans, analysis reports, calculations, simulations, technical specifications, and test/validation protocols.
- Support design reviews and verification/validation tests during the production support phase, including the execution of inclining tests.
- Promote findings and advancements in your field of expertise.
- Deliver quality engineering work within agreed schedules, maintaining required quality and budget.
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable requirements and specifications.
- Contribute to continuous improvement processes and the development, transfer, and retention of knowledge within the department.
Skills & experience
To excel as Naval Architect - Weight Control and Hydrostatics, you should have:
- A relevant secondary vocational education (MBO-4+) degree with at least one year of relevant experience.
- General understanding of ship design and systems, with in-depth knowledge of one or more specialist technical subjects for naval or other vessels and offshore installations.
- Theoretical understanding of hydrostatics, including intact and damage stability and longitudinal strength.
- Experience working in complex project environments and effectively communicating with engineers, project managers, and tender managers in shipbuilding or related industries.
- Good command of the Dutch and English language both written and verbal.
- Excellent references antecedents as a pre-employment security screening is standard part of the recruitment procedure.
- Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required and candidates with NL/EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
