The Architecture department within Embedded Engineering is responsible for the E/E, Control System and SW Architecture of PACCAR engines and DAF Vehicles and specific Electronic Control Units under its responsibility. The department is divided in two groups: E/E Architecture and Software Architecture. As Functional Safety Integration Engineer you will be working in the Software Architecture group.

As Functional Safety Integration Engineer you are responsible for the integration of Functional Safety standards related to the software development of control systems within Embedded Engineering Europe department, part of PACCAR Electronics.


The functional areas related to these Functional Safety Integration development activities comprises powertrain domain and vehicle domain. Powertrain domain contains engine control functions, such as air management, fuel management and torque/speed control of the engine. Vehicle domain contains functions which control driveline functionalities, such as cruise control and speed limiters, but also Cab/chassis functionalities, such as interior/exterior light functionality and HMI and safety related functions, such as ADAS functions.


Your responsibilities:

  • Implementation of the Functional safety concept and resulting countermeasures, considering the control system capabilities.
  • Alignment of the Functional safety concept and the implementation with other stakeholders in the organization. E.g. HW/ASW development, Engine/Vehicle definition teams, system integration testing.
  • Definition of Functional safety requirements for new/updated ECUs
  • Discuss implementation proposals with suppliers

You will review and approve:

  • Stakeholder requirement documents
  • Proposals from suppliers
  • Verification reports from suppliers

You will support:

  • Functional validation of the Functional safety concept
  • Root cause analyses of complex issues related to Functional Safety implementations
  • Definition of hardware requirements for new/updated ECUs
  • Simultaneous Engineering teams under the lead of a System Owner to support a successful integration in production

In this position, you will align regularly with the Property Owner Functional Safety. You will support the System Owners in achieving the project milestones and meet with other vehicle Functional Safety Engineers within Paccar to align on processes and strategy. In this position, you report to the Supervisor of the Software Architecture group.

Functie-eisen

Your qualification:

  • Education on Master level with a specialization in control theory, mechanical- or automotive engineering;
  • Expertise within the automotive safety standard ISO 26262.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in the Functional Safety domain; together with functional automotive domain knowledge, inter controller communication knowledge (e.g CAN and LIN protocol) and related diagnostics;
  • Knowledge of embedded software design processes, calibration processes, change management and experience with real time embedded systems;
  • Analytical skills and the ability to abstract from the current situation and to explain complex technical information clearly;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, especially listening and synthesizing, and the ability to collaborate across different groups having varying levels of expertise and skill;
  • Fluent in the English language - effective communication in both verbal and written form. Willing to learn the Dutch language.

The following requirements are nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of model-based design techniques, preferably in Matlab/Simulink and Stateflow;
  • Experience with agile/scrum;
  • Experience with process supporting tools for defect management and programming;
  • Knowledge of diagnostics and OBD;
  • Knowledge of automotive standards like AutoSAR and SPICE.
