Ready to launch your career into space? Join our client’s team and design cutting-edge solar arrays that power the missions of tomorrow!
Our client makes a vital contribution to the international space industry in the current operational areas of Solar Arrays, Launching Structures, and Instruments & Systems. In these areas, they belong to the world’s top tier. They strive to achieve the same excellence with future products and services, aiming to be a reliable partner that contributes to the success of their clients’ missions in a solution-driven and targeted manner.
Our client designs and builds solar arrays to power satellites during all mission phases. These solar arrays must be carefully designed to provide the necessary power to the satellite and its payloads while enduring all mechanical and thermal loads throughout the mission. Using years of experience and accumulated knowledge, they continue to push boundaries and make new advancements in this field.
You will be part of a team primarily supporting the design of new Solar Arrays. Your duties will include creating designs via CAD for space products, tailored to the unique requirements of each mission. This role involves close collaboration with Lead and Systems Engineers, expert mechanical and thermal engineering teams, the Materials & Process department, and the experienced Assembly & Integration Team.
Your challenges:
- Design via CAD (CATIA V5) Airbus Netherlands B.V. space products, and in particular the ones related to our Solar Arrays product. This from their preliminary design to the final production drawings.
- Develop both CATIA CAD 3D models and detailed 2D drawings, which are used as an input during the production phase.
- Define and implement properly 2D drawings definition (tolerances, implementation of information concerning surface treatments, etc)
- Define of production drawings and (if requested) potential interactions with procurement office to assess overall manufacturability
- Design structure components and assemblies that are optimized in terms of weight, cost, performance, production / assembly requirements while highest safety of the Product is assured using appropriate Design tools.
- Identify the technical activities of the development life cycle that are necessary to develop a system/product and provide the level of confidence which is consistent with regulation and program requirements.
- Liaise with Mechanical and Thermal engineering team, and other appropriate Airbus departments to come up with optimum design solutions.
- Provide technical support during Design Reviews
- Select materials and processes appropriate to each design element, in close collaboration with our Materials & Processes Engineering Team.
- Ensure that final design allows successful integration of each design element with the product as a whole.
- Define and develop drawings needed for Interface Control Documents in close collaboration with Lead Engineer / Systems Engineer, and once needed, interacting with customers and technical third parties involved along the process.
- Accept broad objectives with agreed deadlines, but establish the tasks required and how they should be completed.
- Ensure application of best practices and identify the need for enhanced processes, methods, and tools.
- Ensure all tasks and activities are correctly executed within time and allowable budget, in such a way to meet quality level required by our customers.
Functie-eisen
- Master Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace) with a strong curriculum emphasis on design engineering activities, preferably via CATIA.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as design engineer, preferably in the space sector.
- Minimum 2 years of experience using CATIA-V5 in the last 5 years.
- Experience in preparing and defining 2D drawings for manufacturing (add detail or section views if needed, implement dimensions, specify location, length, size of holes and threads, add tolerances to critical features, implement information on surface treatments, add specific notes to manufacturer, etc)
- Experience in geometrical tolerances, and related implementation in 2D drawings
- Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment both independently and collectively.
- Nice to have is knowledge of classical and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis methods, and having background knowledge also on classical mechanical and thermal aspects to be considered during design phase of space products.
- Nice to have is having matured previous experience in the design of mechanisms and deployable structures.
- Nice to have is having matured previous experience in the design of optical instruments.
- Nice to have is experience with IronCAD S/W.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint) and Google Suite (GMail, Docs, Sheets, Slides) required.
