The role
Are you ready to dive into the world of marine engineering and data integration? As Data Engineer at Damen Naval, you will play a pivotal role in our exciting projects, supporting the design and development of innovative new naval vessels or enhancing existing ones. Your primary responsibilities will involve data processing, ensuring data integrity, and data entry into 3DX, our state-of-the-art PDM/PLM tool. You will be working with internally and externally supplied systems, items, and parts information, directly supporting engineering project teams. This contribution enables the smooth progress of the engineering process for the naval vessels you will be involved with.

Key accountabilities

As Data Engineer at Damen Naval, you will take on the following responsibilities:

  • Enter information into the PDM/PLM tool, using your expertise in 3DX and Microsoft applications. This data could include equipment details from suppliers or system description documents.
  • Check and maintain data integrity within your scope.
  • Participate in engineering reviews that rely on your data.
  • Collaborate with engineers on the engineering projects and Technical Subcontract Manager(s) in validating the received data and defining, establishing, and testing functional and physical interfaces.
  • Identify inconsistencies in data completeness and report to the internal stakeholders.
  • Assist Technical Subcontract Managers and Integration Engineers in getting their subcontractors and suppliers to deliver the needed dataset with the required level of maturity, quality, and completeness.
  • Support the integration and engineering of different systems and components by processing Item & Part Request Lists (IPRL’s) and/or bulk uploads in the PDM/PLM platform.
  • Help project team members interpret data received from subcontractors and suppliers as well as navigating in the PDM/PLM tool to access required information.
  • Contribute to data analysis initiatives and help creating data visualizations (reports / dashboards) that support monitoring of progressive Engineering data completeness.

Skills & experience:

To excel as Data Engineer at Damen Naval, you should bring:

  • Secondary vocational degree (MBO-4) in an engineering-related discipline.
  • Experience in data entry using PDM/PLM tools, databases, and Microsoft applications. Experience with Excel VBA-coding and Power BI reporting is welcomed and considered an advantage.
  • A passion for working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • A basic understanding of engineering concepts and practices, with some engineering experience.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a proactive approach to completing tasks on time.
  • Experience in a maritime engineering environment is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to other locations as needed.
  • Excellent command of the English language (written and verbal) is essential and ideally also basic working level proficiency of the Dutch and/or German language.
  • Excellent antecedents as a pre-employment security screening and investigation are a part of the recruitment procedure (given the military nature of the project).
  • EU citizenship or valid EU work visa required to be considered as viable candidate.
